Professional Marble Polishing in Fort Lauderdale

Marble is the most beautiful surface material in residential architecture and the most demanding to maintain. In Fort Lauderdale's high-humidity, high-salt-air environment, marble floors, countertops, and shower walls accumulate scratches, etches, water spots, and dulling within years. Most clients believe their marble needs to be replaced. It almost never does. Diamond honing and progressive polishing can restore even severely worn marble to its original mirror-like finish — often better than the day it was installed. We have been restoring Broward marble for over twenty years.

What Causes Marble Damage in Fort Lauderdale Homes

Marble is calcium carbonate, chemically sensitive to acids. The everyday culprits in a Fort Lauderdale home are lemon juice, wine, vinegar-based cleaners, and citrus-scented household products. Each contact etches a microscopic dull patch that gradually accumulates. Coastal homes face additional salt-air infiltration that pits unsealed marble over time. The good news: this damage is on the top 1-2mm of the stone, and we can grind past it without removing significant material.

The Restoration Process: Diamond Honing and Polishing

Professional marble restoration is a multi-stage diamond-abrasive process. We start with a coarse grit to remove etches and scratches, then progress through 8-12 finer grits down to a 3000+ grit polish. For floors, we use planetary-head floor machines with water cooling and dust extraction. For countertops, hand-held variable-speed polishers. The final polish creates a true reflective finish — not a topical sealer or coating, but the natural polish of the marble itself. We seal afterward with a penetrating impregnator that lasts 12-24 months.

Crystallization vs Honing vs Polishing

Three terms get used interchangeably in the marble care industry and they are not the same. Honing is grinding to a matte or satin finish. Polishing extends the process to a high-gloss reflective finish. Crystallization is a chemical hardening process that creates a temporary high-gloss film. Crystallization is faster and cheaper than full polishing but wears off in 1-3 years and can yellow over time. We do not crystallize because it is a band-aid. We do real polishing because it lasts.

Floor, Countertop, Shower, and Feature Wall Restoration

We restore every marble surface in Fort Lauderdale homes. Floors are the most common request — polishing 200-500 sq ft of marble floor typically takes 2-3 days. Countertops can usually be polished in place in 4-6 hours. Shower walls and floors require careful waterproofing of the rest of the bathroom and overnight cure time on the sealer. Marble feature walls in entryways or stairwells are typically restored from a lift. We handle every type of installation we have ever encountered.

Frequently Asked Questions

Marble Polishing in Fort Lauderdale — FAQ

How much does marble polishing cost in Fort Lauderdale?expand_more

Marble polishing in Fort Lauderdale typically costs $4 to $12 per square foot for floors, depending on damage severity. Countertops run $200 to $600 per surface. Shower walls and feature walls are $8 to $18 per sq ft. All pricing includes diamond honing, progressive polishing, sealing, and cleanup.

Can scratched or etched marble be restored?expand_more

Yes, almost always. Diamond honing grinds past surface damage in the top 1-2mm of the stone, then progressive polishing restores the mirror finish. The only damage we cannot reverse is full structural cracks (which require replacement, not polishing).

How long does marble polishing take in Fort Lauderdale?expand_more

A typical 500 sq ft marble floor polish takes 2-3 days including water containment, edge work, polishing, sealing, and cleanup. Countertops are usually 4-6 hours per surface. Shower walls run 1-2 days.

Will polishing make my marble glossy or matte?expand_more

Whichever you prefer. We polish to your specification: matte (honed), satin, semi-gloss, or full high-gloss mirror finish. We discuss finish level during the consultation.

How often does marble need to be polished?expand_more

In a heavily used home, marble floors typically benefit from professional polishing every 5-10 years. Light-traffic floors and bathroom countertops can go 10-15+ years between polishings.
